He let himself into the house Does it just mean "He entered the house"? How common is this manner of speaking?

Yeah it means he entered the house but it means no one showed him in or opened the door to let him in. He literally let himself in. Its a really common way of saying it, it means the same thing just implies that no one directly showed him in.
