The correct form of the phrase is "turn around", meaning look behind you or to literally turn all the way through a circle.
Quite often, the "a" from "around" is dropped, especially in casual conversation, and you will hear "turn round". This should never be used in writing (unless you are directly quoting somene's pronunciation).

The answers above aren't correct. The explanation is very simple.
turn round = British English
turn around = American English
Both are correct and the meaning is the same. It just depends on who you are and where you are speaking or writing.
