I have a dilemma!
We normally say: The background of the study.....
Could we say: The background TO the study.....?
If so, in which cases is that correct?

I would say "the background of the study" if the background is the supporting data, or the context for the study.
I would say "the background to the study" if the background is motivation for the study, or the reason the study was made.
The first speaks of something within the study; the second refers to something outside the study that affects it.
