Is it slang using "table lamp, desk lamp" or symply "lamp" for "light fitting?
I found this on wikipedia, so I don't know if this is true.
I'm used to saying "lamp" for "desk lamps, table lamps, bedside lamps, street lamps, etc.". Am I being informal to the person I'm speaking to?
Thank you in advance!

You are not being informal at all. You are just being unspecific. The difference would only be important in conversation if it were important to know exactly what kind of lamp you are talking about.
If you were buying a lamp, it would be especially important, obviously.
Usually it is not that important.
