"At school" describes a location. "In school" describes an activity. "My parents were at school while I was in school." Anyone can visit at school. Only a student can be in school.

If Afra is "at school," it means she is not where we are, but sitting in a classroom.
If Afra is "in school," it means she is attending school generally, and not employed somewhere.
