What's the difference between accusation and allegation?

Allegations have the additional meaning of being presented without proof. So, if someone accuses you of something without proof, it is both. But, it doesn't have to be. Someone can accuse you of something and have proof and it is still an allegation, so I suppose it's more of a connotation than an additional meaning. Also, allegation is a technical term used in law.
