coin or currency? what is the correct word if I refer to dollar, euro, etc, when I say the "coin" or "currency" of Scotland is pound sterling...

Coin means metal money,like Cent. Currency is the unit of every country's money.eg=>Dollar is the currency of USA or EUR is the currency of Europe.

Coin almost always means metal money, as opposed to bills or checks. Currency refers to money in any form. One of the lesser used definitions of 'coin' is metal or paper money, as opposed to checks. However, this definition is very seldom used.
