er i lære hos (en tømrer) I know that this phrase means: is apprenticed to a carpenter. But could someone explain what does each word means exactly?

er = is (or indeed "am, are", since Danish verbes aren't inflected for person) i lære = in apprenticeship hos = at That's the more or less litteral translation.
