"Give me some water" is a shorter way to say "You give some water to me."
Therefore:
1. The DIRECT object is " some water."
2. The INdirect object is "me."
"They paid her $500."
3. The DIRECT object is" $500."
4. The INdirect object is "her."
(In other words: " They paid $500 to her.")
*****
5. "The journalist rose from her place to protest."
a. In my opinion, there is NO direct or indirect object in that sentence.
i. There is an object ("her place"), but it is called the object of the preposition "from."
