Russian language is superficially similar with Ukrainian and Belorus languages, but fundamentally different. We can understand each other because we use Russian language as a foundation. Ukraine and Belorus were part of the Soviet Union and Russia Empire and they have used Russian language for a long time. We belong to the East Slavic branch and our group includes six languages. There are Old Novgorod, Ruthenian, Belarusian, Russian, Ukrainian and Rusyn.
