Don't be too hard or excessive. "I'll have a hot dog, and go easy on the mustard." (I'll just have a little mustard.) "He came to work an hour late, but because he was the boss' cousin, the boss went easy on him." (The boss treated him a little more kindly instead of giving him the usual punishment.)
