我想说：Then here I was among the cognoscenti, and suddenly everyone wanted to talk about it.Cognoscenti in English means people with exceptional/a lot of knowledge about a certain subject/thing. They are not necessarily professionals or experts. They may be, as in the way I want to use it, just ordinary people who know a lot. Those in the know, so to speak.

鑑賞家 : 對藝術品或古董等具有鑑定及欣賞能力的人。

行家in chinese, as well, are not necessarily professionals or experts.
and currently 专家in some casual situations can be ordinary people with a lot of knowledge about certain subjests (especially about sex).
