what does 'but then' and 'but then also' mean? what does 'but then' and 'but then also' mean? can we use 'despite of' instead of these

The phrase "in spite of" may be appropriate, depending on the context. Despite the problems in your question, I have attempted an answer. But then, people often answer in spite of any problems with the question. Notice that "but then" means "on the other hand". I wasn't trying to imply there were problems, I only wanted to use the words in context.
