What is the conversational way of saying "importunate people"?
Is it "bothersome people"?

Hmm...
In my opinion,
"Importunate people" are those who are "too persistent, too demanding, too insistent, or too intrusive."
-->> Instead of saying "He is such an importunate boss.", you can say "He is such an overly demanding boss."
"Bothersome people" are those who are "pesky, troublesome, irritating, or annoying."
-->> "An importunate boss like him, though bothersome, is needed by this company to prosper."
<<> Importunate people may be bothersome at times but not always (it all depends on the length of your patience). <>>

Iris,
Here is one that I am familiar with.
A pest....an annoying person
to pester....to annoy someone, especially by asking them something many times
You're being a real pest. Would you leave us alone, please?
How can I stop my boyfriend being a sex pest?
The salesman pestered us with phone calls for over a week.

"Bothersome" is a good variation, however "demanding" is more commonly used.
