"making" is creating.
Examples:
I'm making breakfast/lunch/dinner. (cooking)
I'm making a house (when you're drawing)
"doing" means you're busy with something, without creating it.
Examples:
I'm doing the laundry (you're washing the clothes, but you're not making them)
I'm doing my homework (the questions are already made, you're just answering them)

most spanish speakers have problems as they translated to the same verb hacer.
Do is usually an activity. Make will produce something.
