Can somebody explain this proverb?

Hi, I don’t know this saying but I think the meaning is as follows:
Your “household” contains many things. (“haushalten” - manage a household/life/funds/…)
Yet, you can easily get along with only a limited set of things. (“auskommen” - getting along with/survive/之类的…)
So the meaning to me is, that we usually have/carry to much stuff around that we don’t actually need.
