Did You Know You Can Use the Past Emphatic When You Can't Remember A Past Participle Or Past Form? For all you English language learnersr out there... Suppose that you can't remember the past tense form of a verb or its past participle to use in the present perfect. Did you know that you could fall back on the past emphatic? Yes, Luis. "I do love" is the present emphatic form of "to love". :) Present Emphatic: I do love you!!!! Content = She keeps questioning his love and hounding him about it. Past Emphatic: I did love you!!!! Content: She breaks up with her boyfriend and a year later they get into an argument over why they broke up. She says that he didn't love her. And he screams back "I DID LOVE YOU! I DID!" :)
