Why is the preposition 'in' used in this sentence? Can't we convey the same meaning without 'in' in the following sentence? And what's the use of 'in' in the following sentence? The US is now sending in a team to help

You can write the sentence with or without 'in'. However, there is a very slight difference in meaning between the two, in my opinion, and that is "sending in a team" implies that there is an important reason for doing so. You can send a team for any reason but you tend to send a team 'in' to deal with some sort of situation.
