Second-hand sounds a lot better.  
Recycling is when an item is destroyed to use its material to make other things (eg the metal).  
Sometimes people say an item is recycled to mean it is second-hand, but I think that is not correct.

The latest fashionable term is; Pre-owned bicycle. It used to be called a used bicycle.
