I don't think it's that common. In Egypt it is old fashioned and sometimes weird if you greet people like this. We only hear this word in black and white films. but the most used one is: " صباح الخير" , "مساء الخير" , etc..........

this speech the people used to say it from 50 years ago, but now we are not use it, there is صباح الخير or السلام عليكم or سلام, there are more used at this time

Maybe in some countries but not all of them.
