I think there is very little danger of learners impressing anyone at all, given that there are enough eloquent speakers in the world already. Good English speakers are not in short supply, though it is true that people have complained about the Queen's grandchildren not speaking well enough. Learn a language for a door leading to a wider world. Learn it also for its own beauty. Learn also to shed a child's narcissism. Your life will be better.
