하이킹 vs. 등산
I'd like to understand better than difference between 하이킹 (Hiking) vs. 등산 (Climbing)
In English, hiking just means walking (usually in the countryside or the woods, usually along a trail)
Climbing requires a gain in altitude and usually implies a more arduous activity than hiking (maybe rock climbing or mountain climbing with ropes and other equipment).
So, in English, we could say "let's go hiking along the river trail" but we would normally not use "climbing" in this sentence since most rivers are fairly flat.
Do the words 하이킹 and 등산 have the same meaning in Korean as the English words hiking and climbing?
Also hiking usually implies a day's walk whereas a multiple day trip would be trekking (트레킹) or backpacking (배낭 여행)
Is this how these words are used in Korean?

If you find 등산 in dictionary it might says climbing however 등산 uses as hiking in Korea. So you can understand the meaning of 등산 is same as hiking. Trekking and backpacking are using similar meaning in Korea.
