How would you interpret ‘its visitations’ here? Too much solitude here, pent up with ghosts, and nowhere to go to escape them. The man in the street selling ice from a truck today had a pick, nearly like the one that murdered Lev. This was the month he dreaded most. Its visitations. How would you interpret ‘its visitations’ in the last sentence? PS: The ‘he’ in the previous sentence refers to Lev Trotsky who had been assassinated by a man with a pick. Thanks!

Hello stranger ;) 'Visitations' is mostly used with reference to ghosts and spirits. Here the possessive 'Its' refers to the month. He dreaded this month more than any other because it always brought with it reminders and echoes of what had happened previously at this time of year.

Is the month in question the same month that Trotsky was murdered? Perhaps he's referring to the visitation of ghosts or memories of the assassination.
