Whats difference between enduring and unceasing? I find both meaning same and wondering they are not listed as synonym in thefreedictionary.com Is there any difference?I can't understand difference between yet after 4 answers. This is clear for the natives obviously but here I got different answers too: Lida: Enduring : something happening/going on/lasting over a period of time. Alex: Unceasing means that some that is going/moving,/operating will continue to operate. I hope someone come up with a more clear explanation. Maybe you can tell me if we replace enduring with unceasing in this context what will happen: "he formed a number of enduring relationships with women" Thank you

Yes, there is a difference. Enduring is from the same root word as durable is, whilst unceasing shares a root with cease. Therefore, enduring is the pp of endure which means, amongst other things, "to last", whilst unceasing means will not stop. So, enduring means that something that exists with continue to exist whilst unceasing means that some that is going/moving,/operating will continue to operate. Does that help?

If something is enduring, it lasts for a long time. If something is unceasing, it doesn't stop, it continues forever. In the example, "he formed a number of enduring relationships with women," it means he had long-term relationships with several (or maybe many) different women. Each relationship lasted a significant amount of time.

Other than the eytmology, as described above, I feel like "unceasing" implies some sort of struggle. Probably because "to cease" and "cessation" are both used in the context of war.

Hello and Merry Xmas!!! Enduring is an adjective and has to do with something happening/going on/lasting over a period of time. Unceasing is also an adjective and means not comimg to an end/continuous. They are not synonyms, that's for sure.
