GRAMMAR
Verb conjugation allows the omission of personal pronouns. Most of the time, they are avoided, unless, it is ambiguous or they are used for emphasis.
"Citizen" is a countable noun, therefore, you need "an" = "un" (masculine article).
In Spanish, we don't change word order when asking a YES/NO question, so the answer and the question have the same pattern: Q: "You are American?" A: "Yes, I am American" (literal)
Jobs, professions and occupations don't require articles, unless further information is added.¿(Tú) Eres doctor? = "¿Are you a doctor?
¿Quién es él? "Él es un doctor FAMOSO" = "Who is he?" "He is a FAMOUS doctor"
Other synonyms of "American" = norteamericano
In Spanish, "Americano" is the term used for someone who is from The Americas (continent), not just from the USA. It is like "European" for a person from Europe, "African" for Africa "Asian" for Asia.
