Hello Natcharida! I hope this can be useful: 1) Meaning "EM": it's a preposition and can be translated as "IN", "AT", "ON" "DE": it's a preposition that can be translated as "OF" or "FROM" "ONDE": it's an adverb and is translated as "WHERE" "DE ONDE": you can translate as "WHENCE", "FROM WHERE" So we can see that "EM" and "DE" have different meanings 2) Use in your prhases - "ONDE você mora?" As "ONDE" means "WHERE" you can use this structure to ask "WHERE do you live?". When you answer this question you can say "Eu moro NO Peru" that means "I live IN Peru". Because the same way in English you say you live IN/AT some place, in português you say that "você mora EM algum lugar" (EM/NO/NA depending on the context) - "DE ONDE você é?" This structure you use to ask something like "WHERE do you come FROM?". In this case you need to answer "Eu sou DO Peru." (I am FROM Peru). Because, like in English, you are FROM some place. So in Portuguese you say that "você é DE algum lugar". - "Você mora NO Peru?" This phrase is common in Brasil. Literally means "Do you live IN Peru?".

"Em" and "De" are prepositions, but as in english, each verb requires different prepositions and depending which one you choose, the meaning of the sentence changes. I will give you some examples: - De onde você é?
