What's the difference between a pole and a mast

We usually use 'mast' for boats, but there are other situations where the word is used - a radio or TV mast, for example. Masts are usually high and immoveable, whereas a pole can be picked up and carried. Take the sport of pole-vaulting, for example.

Poles are common everywhere, on the street, while Mast's are almost exclusive to boats.
