I don't feel there is any competition. I think it is an eagerness and excitement to master the language and begin speaking it. For some, it may be a necessity in order to get jobs or to be able to adapt during a travel, so there is a feeling of something pending. It's often human nature to want to move away from the learning process as soon as possible and to gain full mastery, which in itself is a achievement for the person.
