what's that mean? "mano a mano" I watched a reality show in which a girl who was beaten by her boyfriend. And the police officer asked that girl " What kind of fight? Mano a mano ? " What's it mean?

It comes from the Spanish for, 'hand to hand.' It is used to mean a fight on equal footing where neither participant is at a clear advantage. So in this context the officer is asking whether they got into a fight and were hurting one another or whether she was simply being beaten up by a much stronger, abusive boyfriend.
