I know "onece in a while" means " " sometime" but what's the meaning of " every once in a while"? i often hear this. thank you for answering.

There's not really any difference between the two - they both mean 'from time to time' or 'occasionally'.

I have not heard of this or used this. The closest to once in a long while could be "once in a blue moon".
