What does cold- awake mean? Can someone explain me the meaning?
Thank you all. I can give more context because the meaning is not clear yet. This is taken from a novel "Now I Lay Me" by Hemingway: "But some nights I could not fish, and on those nights I was cold-awake and said my prayers over and over and tried to pray for all the people I had ever known"

I think it may mean "stay awake because of cold/cough". When you get/catch a cold(a common illness), you may wake in the night.

Hi Cristina, It is hard to know for sure without a context, but it may mean that a person is suddenly wide awake, like they were woken suddenly, and maybe in an unpleasant way, not waking up slowly and naturally.

I think here it may mean 'you normally stop doing or taking something abruptly rather than using a more gradual process'.

Hi Cristina. If the context is technology or computers, a 'cold wake' (not cold *a*wake) or 'cold boot' is when you start the computer or device up from having no power at all. Otherwise, this is not a term I have heard often in English. I hope this helps.
