An idiom to describe sloppy handwriting
I am trying to remember an idiom which describes sloppy handwriting, and it's ought to be crab thingy.I did read it in somewhere, and it has a crab in it.But at this moment I cannot figure it out.Maybe it is not an idiom but only a kind of metaphor.Would anyone give me some clues? Many thanks.Think I just found it,it's no more than an adjective. The whole sentence is "He was bent over the biggest book Arya had ever seen, a great thick tome with cracked yellow pages of crabbed script, bound between faded leather covers, but he closed it to listen to Harwin’s report."

You could describe bad handwriting as "spidery".
The noun and verb "scrawl" refers to bad writing.

Crabbed script (another way of saying writing) means writing that is very close together and poorly formed, making it hard to read. It might come from some Old English word, or actually be related to crabs, the crustaceans - not sure of the origin.
