V can be a girl's name. I have seen it as short for a very long name from anywhere that starts with a V. Can be V, Vi, etc. I have known people from Southeast Asia such as Laos or Thailand who have extremely long names that start with V and they simply call themselves V, Vi, or Vee.

Usually you see Vi , if anything, and that refers to Violet usually. Vee can be a girl's name too just not as common and wouldn't really refer to any other names that I can think of
