"M'a" is the " have " verb with a possessive before. This possessive is linked to the speaker.
Example :
He saved my life / Il ma sauvé ma vie / Il m'a sauvé la vie.
" M'a " is used because you speak about YOUR life.

M'a is a combination of 'me' - pronounced 'muh' - which is an object pronoun meaning 'me' or 'to me', and 'a' which means 'has'. Me + a = m'a. It's mainly used with the passé composé tense. Here's an example:
Elle a dit la verité = She has told the truth
Elle m'a dit la verité = She has told me the truth

Not only m'a, it's also m'as, m'ont, m'avait, m'auront etc etc. When you have "me" and a word starting by vowel, you put that.
