What's the difference between simple "often" and "oftentimes", if any? For example, are they interchangeable in such sentences: 1. People oftentimes don't notice their drawbacks; 2. I often go to the gym; 3. He oftentimes boasts about his achievements in sport?

I've never heard someone using "oftentimes". I know that it is an old-fashioned form for "often".

'Oftentimes' is not standard English. You might hear it, but you will never need to use it. I don't know anyone who uses this word.
