In this such a great poem by alexander pope . Why pope may have written it ?what is his purpose of written this poem ?

Ah this is actually a really interesting question but kind of hard to explain the answer....Okay so Alexander Pope gave the dog with the engraved collar to a prince if I remember correctly...the engraving is basically a clever joke/social commentary....it's basically saying to whomever reads it "I'm the property of the prince, and you reader, who are you the property of?" implying that anyone who reads the collar is under the ownership in some form to someone else.
