What's meant by "so termed" here? Why is ed participle so termed rather than the "past participle" as it used to be called?

Hi Felix, I think they mean "named" or "called" a term is a word used to describe a definition. For example the "TERM" addition in math means to combine two numbers to get another value. In this case they have used it in the past tense when referring to "past participle". That is why they use "so termed" you could also say "termed". I hope that helps! -Brian
