I think you would appreciate being told about the concept of "retro chic" - doing things the vintage way - in fashion and lifestyle. Using a wicker basket is not incompatible with being modern. Many modern minds reject artificial material. The finest clothes, for example, are most of the time made from natural fabrics and stitched together by hand ("couture"; "bespoke").
There is also "the authentic movement", in music as in lifestyle, whereby music is, for example, played on authentic period instruments (including counter-tenor voices) and interpretations follow more closely (than 50 years ago, for instance) those of the period in which the music was composed.
Saddles of the most luxurious bikes, for example, are made from the finest leather, and not artificial materials, and the choice of leather is no less extensive or exquisite than that for a Rolls Royce.
I am not saying that the TV series is at that level of sophistication, but the real point about learning a language is to enter a civilsation.
The weird thing is not the wicker basket, but the plastic daisies!
