Using the preterite vs imperfect with nunca Although the textbooks say to use the imperfect in sentences with nunca, there are examples of both if I search for texts. Ie, nunca imaginé and nunca imaginaba. Can anyone explain if one is more correct or if a difference is implied? Are both in common usage? Does it vary with different verbs? Thank you!

Hello, Is more common to say "nunca imaginé". I think the difference is that "nunca imaginaba" is when you never imagine in the past but it is implicit that now you can imagine, and "nunca imaginé" there is nothing implicit.

Nunca can be used with both depending on the context, I don't know why your text book says such a thing.
