How is the difference between "anyway" and "after all" I feel like both "anyway" and "after all" function as topic-changing, but in different ways. How's the difference?

They are different. "Anyway" means: "in spite of what I said before, the main point is as follows". On the contrary, "after all" REINFORCES what one said before: it introduces a strong argument that gives support to what one said before.

they are very similar, anyway may be like the word regardless referring to the earlier context whereas after all is short for after all that again referring to the earlier context in the conversation
