squatting on a mushroom
Are there any Star Trek fans here? I have a problem with "squatting on a mushroom" meaning in the insulting scene in the end of TOS 1x24 This Side Of Paradise. It says: "A carcass full of memory banks who should be squatting on a mushroom instead of passing himself off as a man." What does it mean? Squatting means sitting? And why on a mushroom?...
Thank you in advance )
There's no such expression -- I imagine it's a reference to the alien magic mushrooms / flowers found on Omicron Ceti III. Also, I think "ceti" means "mushrooms" in Latin.

I would assume it means that the person or thing that is "A carcass full of memory banks" is more like a frog (or other small animal that could squat on a mushroom) than a man.
