A seed is embryonic plant, and it is actually covered in a seed coat. It often contains food but it is not edible, while a grain is edible fruit. Grain is usually hard on the outside and it is harvested from grassy crops like oats, wheat or rice.So every grain has a seed in it, which is an embryo.
