what's wrong with "Normandy cheddar"? “Glad you could take us in, D,” said Kevin. “Your parents are in Europe?” “France, man. My little sister’s getting in trouble in boarding school over there. She’s like a crime kingpin in a uniform, man.” We’d interrupted him in the middle of eating a plate of greasy microwave nachos. I found it kind of endearing, even though the cheese was probably small-batch Normandy cheddar. He offered me a bite, and I turned him down. So in this context, Kevin and I came to David's home in a late night when we got nowhere to stay. This is "my" first time meeting David. Besides, David's family is very rich... not sure if this info is useful. How to understand "I found it kind of endearing, even though the cheese was probably small-batch Normandy cheddar."? Is Normandy cheddar supposed to be not delicious?

I don't think that Normandy cheddar exists. Normandy is in France, and the region is famous for its French cheeses, such as camembert. Cheddar is a typically British - it is not made in France. "Small batch" is generally used for high-quality speciality products made in limited quantities. Perhaps the idea is that it is something incredibly rare? Or that the narrator is supposed to know nothing about cheese?
