"His very concepts" is a fairly literary/formal way of saying "the ideas (of something) he has in his head" or "his understanding (of something)"
"His concept of a fun holiday is one that includes lots of hiking."

Very is used here to emphasize that you are talking exactly about one particular thing or person.
