What does 'it is sound only' mean?
I'm reading a book about Achilles. It says, when his beloved companion(Patroclus) is dead, he calls his name over and over until it is sound only. I don't quite get what 'until it is sound only' means here.
It means that he repeats the name Patroclus for so long that the name loses all meaning and becomes just a sound — like a mantra. Are you reaching Achilles by Elizabeth Cook, by any chance?
