"That man done lost his mind". What does done mean in this sentence?
Hello everyone. Could someone please explain why there's "done" in the sentence "That man done lost his mind"? I heard this sentence in "Stranger Things" (season 2, episode 2). A farmer said this when he was talking to a police officer about poisoned pumpkins.
Police officer: So, you're telling me that Merrill poisoned your farm, because he thinks you poisoned his, which, of course, you didn't?
Farmer: No, sir. And I got me an alibi the night he accuses me. My Jenny and her boys were in town. I was with them all night.
Police officer: Did you actually see Merrill?
Farmer: No need. That man done lost his mind. Went around slandering me, threatening all sorts of madness.

It is very informal language (and is actually grammatically incorrect),
Done is this context means has.. so essentially, the man has lost his mind.

It is grammatically incorrect. However, people really do use constructions like that, especially in rural areas. I wouldn't try to imitate it, though. It comes across as uneducated.
