questions Maybe moving on in October should be a law, he thought. New national motto: EVERYBODY LEAVES IN OCTOBER. You get your PackingPermit in August, give your required week’s notice in mid-September, then— Question 1: In this case, what's the meaning of 'PackingPermit'? Question 2: What's the meaning of 'required week’s notice'? ( give your required week’s notice == must hand in your notice ( for leaving ) one week in advance? Here, required == must? )

Hey Maggie! I've never heard of a 'packing permit' before, perhaps you could give a little more information about the source/context? There is such a thing as a 'parking permit', which allows you to park your car in area that is usually reserved say, for disabled or important people. A 'required weeks notice' is a period of one week that an employer wants you to work for after telling them you intend to leave the company. They usually do this to allow them to organise for someone else to take your place or to give them time to hire new staff to fill the position.
