It is best to transliterate your name in the way it is spelt officially in your identification. 冏 is the original form for 烱 which means bright, brilliant, clear, hot etc. It would be a mouthful and messy to translate by meaning! 司 = manage, control 馬 = horse. Most probably your ancestors were stable masters for the government in charge of horses (for military purposes)

Haha, I think you must be tricked by those who name you this Chinese name. '冏'is a funny Chinese character, meaning "being embarrassed".

Every chinese (character)word means something , just like the every english word means something . What somebody call "chinese characters" , often is really "chinese words" , even lots of Chinese people don't know it , or just have wrong understanding during moden education , which educate them to confuse "character or word" For example here, 司馬冏 is three word , not three characters . That why you sometimes can translate 司、馬、冏 separately into 3 english word . A moot thing there , is how you pick up a word's mean , by smallest element or to consider some words are linked , unable to separate . You can consider "司--馬" as a linked word or as two word separately. What a surname origin , what's the mean , you probably can search in some chinese book / dictionary , I haven't notice about this kind of book .
