It's an old tradition in England to cross your fingers when wishing for good luck.
e.g. "Lets keep our fingers crossed for good weather tomorrow"
Fingers and toes crossed is a bit of a joke actually...wishing a bit TOO hard you might say.

It means wishing for good luck.
"Fingers crossed" is normally used, when they say toes they mean they're wishing harder.
