Which option is correct, "both", "both the" or "both of the" in my sentence? Would any of you please let me know if all the three options in brackets are correct to be used here and if the sentence is grammatically correct? Comparing the information on (1. both / 2. both the / 3. both of the) websites of X and Y, if you have the bandwidth recommended by X, you will meet the bandwidth requirements for using Y. ("X" and "Y" refer to two communications software) Hope to hear from you soon! Thank you in advance!

You should use "both" with plural nouns. For example, "Both children have blue eyes". You should use "both of" with plural nouns that are possessive. For example, "Both of my children have blue eyes". Hope this helps

It looks more grammatically correct to use #3, to say “Comparing the information on both of the websites of X and Y...”, however, it sounds more conversational and flows better to use and say #2, “Comparing the information on both the websites of X and Y...” So even if #3 is technically textbook correct, #2 can also be used effectively and sounds more natural. Hope this helps!

"...comparing information on the websites for both X and Y..."

"...Both of the websites for X and Y..." is wrong because it means that there are two websites, both of which describe X AND Y; whereas "..comparing information on the websites for both X and Y..." means that X and Y each have their own websites, which you are comparing.
